Welcome to Rice!
Sustainable tourism is always a difficult balance; a need to offer quality facilities for the traveller but without destroying the very reason they come to experience the region.
As the Sidemen Valley evolves and becomes an increasingly desirable destination, we are delighted to introduce Rice @ Samanvaya. The concept of Rice was derived from our wish to blend naturally with this delicate environment.
Our guests will be able to enjoy the ambiance of being immersed within the rice field itself. Here at Samanvaya and unique to Sidemen, we are delighted to offer Lumbung style accommodation. Lumbungs are traditional rice barns originally used for the storage of harvested rice. Bamboo is one of the most sustainable building materials in the world. Our Lumbungs are a high quality construction of bamboo and alang alang which will blend effortlessly with the rice crops and simply enhance ones senses of the environment.
Growing rice throughout the year is not always possible due to water shortages on Bali. Here in the Sidemen Valley, rice crops are alternated with a variety of vegetables, tapioca, chillis, garlic, pak choi to name just a few. At Rice, there will be no formal gardens, no manicured lawns, just rice and vegetables.
Rice sits snuggly beside Samanvaya where not only will you be 'at one' with the rice padis, but also enjoy incredible vistas and all the facilities one would expect of a boutique resort.
Already iconic in the Sidemen landscape, The Ananda Yoga,Chakra and Spa, a stunning cultural fusion built of bamboo and alang alang. With three treatment rooms, Spa bathroom and a Yoga Hall offering amazing vistas across the rice terraces to the hills and coast, it compliments beautifully the facilities offered both to our guests and visitors to Sidemen.
The addition of Kenyeri Lodge offering 'suite'style accommodation has now completed our wooden lodge accommodation.
The opening of our four new spacious 'villa style ' Lumbungs to complete our guest accommodation at Samanvaya.
Our new Restaurant aptly named 'Rice', situated deep in the rice terraces at Samanvaya. It will not only offer great cuisine, but also panoramic views of the valley all the way to the coastline of Bali. Adjacent to our 'Rice' restaurant will be a new sun terrace and hot tub to enhance our guest facilities.
Our original restaurant will still retain the bar and with comfy sofas, will be strictly for 'chillaxing', whether its reading a book, playing a boardgame or just mixing with others whilst sipping a cocktail!
Finally, it is not just about development, we are proud to announce our small part in protecting some of the surrounding rice terraces of Samanvaya. By collaborating with some of the local farming community, we have secured the views for years to come of some 3000 square metres of rice terraces. Not only our guests will continue to benefit from the fabulous views, but the farmers having received substantial financial reward, may continue their traditional way of life with greater financial security. It's a 'win win' situation and one that we are delighted to participate in.
